The Liederkranz German Band honors Indianapolis' rich German musical traditions through fun, high-energy performances of traditional and contemporary German music.
Our mission is to inspire pride in German-American heritage by providing an inclusive community where musicians of all backgrounds can learn, perform, and celebrate together.
From traditional polkas, waltzes, and marches to modern German favorites, holiday music, concert works, and audience sing-alongs, our repertoire reflects the many sounds of German-speaking Europe and the German-American experience.
Our performances range from authentic Oktoberfest celebrations and Christkindlmarkts to formal concert presentations, community festivals, private events, and educational programs.
Schützenhansl
In this version of the classic Oktoberfest hit "Schützenliesel", Liesl is no longer the lucky charm in the story - she’s the one behind the scope.
Featuring vocal soloist Anne Fuchs, music for this video was performed by members of the Liederkranz German Band and recorded/produced by Norm Gwaltney.
Video footage was filmed at the Indianapolis Liederkranz, and all featured performers are members of the Liederkranz Band, Handbell Choir, and Vocal Choirs.
The Liederkranz Band travels all over the Hoosier state, and sometimes even beyond, performing 30-40 times each year.
Some of our favorite recent events and venues have included:
Athenaeum GermanFest
Big Lug Canteen
Carmel Christkindlmarkt
Downtown Indy Oktoberfest on Monument Circle
Guggman Haus Brewing Co.
Jasper Strassenfest
Oldenburg Freudenfest
...and many more community festivals and cultural celebrations throughout the year.
We welcome musicians of all backgrounds, skill levels, instruments, and voice parts with no audition required.
You don't have to be German or speak the language to join (though it does help with the sing-alongs) - you just have to love German music!
Rehearsals happen Monday evenings at 7:30 PM on the first floor of the Indianapolis Liederkranz.
