The Liederkranz German Band is an all-volunteer ensemble and is open to anyone with an interest in celebrating German-American musical heritage. No audition is required to join, and musicians of all skill levels are welcome. Perhaps you play every day and are in multiple ensembles, perhaps your instrument has been gathering dust in your closet for 40 years - either way, you have a place with us at the Liederkranz!
Interested musicians are encouraged to join us at a rehearsal any time, and updates to the rehearsal schedule are always reflected in the public calendar on our Upcoming Events page. If you plan on playing during your first rehearsal, please fill out the contact form below so we can prepare music for you.
Our rehearsal room is located on the south end of the first floor of the building. When you arrive, please refer to the color-coded parking map below:
The 🔵 Blue 🔵 Zone parking lot belongs to the Fraternal Order of Police next door but is available to Liederkranz members and guests for rehearsals and performances. From this lot, follow the pathway north between the buildings, then turn left and enter through the front door (on the left if you're facing the building).
The 🟡 Yellow 🟡 Zone is a grass lot immediately behind the Liederkranz building. Musicians are welcome to park here, but space is limited and sometimes becomes difficult terrain during inclement weather. From this lot, please enter directly through the back door of the building into the rehearsal room.
The 🔴 Red 🔴 Zone parking lots belong to other buildings in the area and should not be used for parking during rehearsals or performances.
Other Liederkranz Ensembles
The Indianapolis Liederkranz is comprised of four musical groups. In addition to the German Band, we have two vocal choirs and a handbell choir, all of which rehearse on Wednesday evenings* at the Liederkranz in the upstairs hall.
Wednesday Rehearsal Schedule
6:15 PM | Handglockenchor (Handbells)
7:15 PM | Damenchor (SSA Vocal)
8:15 PM | Männerchor (TTBB Vocal)
*NOTE: The Liederkranz handbell and vocal choirs observe a summer break, with rehearsals terminating for the season in mid-May and resuming in early September.

German Dancing
Indianapolis is also home to a volunteer German-American dance troupe, Die Fledermäuschen Tanzgruppe.
This group is open to any interested performers, regardless of experience, skill level, or German heritage. It is a program of the Indianapolis German American Klub, who also hosts Indy's largest Oktoberfest celebration in early September.
Die Fledermäuschen rehearse on Wednesday evenings* from 7:00 - 8:30 PM in the ballroom at:
German American Klub Indianapolis
8602 S Meridian St
Indianapolis, IN 46217
*NOTE: Die Fledermäuschen do not rehearse on the 2nd Wednesday of each month.
